"The interaction with the
CHAPS staff, volunteers and horses have really helped my child learn
to use her words, develop better social skills, and have relationships
with people who accept her for who she is and encourage her to realize
her abilities, not her disabilities."
-
T.B., client parent
" We have seen patients
participate (at CHAPS) that have never been around horses and are
very quiet, or have issues with being in large groups, or just fear
of new situations. By going out to CHAPS, many of the patients are
really stretching themselves and find that they gain confidence when
they learn to groom and tack up the horse. Even before patients ride,
we have seen a change in demeanor with just the act of grooming. This
is an amazing program that the Sheridan VA is proud to be a part of."
- Jackie VanMark, Sheridan VA Medical Center
Director of Public Affairs speaking about the CHAPS Horses 4 Heroes
Veterans program.
"CHAPS is such a wonderful
program and so beneficial to our children, who have varying abilities
and disabilities. Riding is good for their balance, their self esteem,
and an avenue for relaxation that doesn't come easily for them. It
gives them a sense of control and a sense of responsibility. The staff
and volunteers at CHAPS are genuinely happy for the children when
they do well. We are grateful for this service and feel it is a great
asset to our community."
